The Faro de Sibulac – Babac de Gigantes Lighthouse, also referred to as the Isla de Gigantes Lighthouse can be found on North Gigante Island, which is an island located off the northeasternmost tip of Panay.
Its primary purpose is to provide aid to vessels that are sailing into the Visayan Sea in the direction of the Port of Iloilo. In August of 1895, it began operating normally.
The design and specifications of the Faro de Sibulac – Babac de Gigantes were comparable to those of the Faro de Islas Calabazas, Faro de Punta Luzaran, Luz Del Puerto De San Fernando, FaroDe Islote Siete Pecados, and Luz De Isla Bagatao, all of which were made of metals and manufactured in France. These towers are known as tourelles.
Even though the tourelle tower that was originally a part of this lighthouse can’t be found anywhere, the foundation that it was built on is still intact. At this time, a brand new tower made of aluminum and assembled in Japan has been installed right next to the spot where the older tower formerly stood.
Both the 1904 and 1920 light lists refer to this station with the name Sibuluak Babai. The lists only refer to it as a “tower,” stating that it was gray in 1904 and white in 1920, and that its focal plane was 78 feet (23 m). This was probably the second tourelle in the series.
It is located in the northwestern part of the Visayan Sea, on the northernmost of the Gigantes Islands, which is about 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of the most northeastern point of the island of Panay.
